This year, the IDB played host to the 2016 Cracking the Nut conference, an annual international gathering that focuses on rural and agricultural development. Elizabeth Boggs Davidsen, who oversees a portfolio of MIF projects that includes efforts related to developing agricultural value chains, presented welcoming remarks at the conference. Agriculture and food security remain a top priority for the region and for the MIF.

Since 2000, the MIF has supported the agriculture sector in Latin America and the Caribbean through over 100 targeted interventions, benefiting over 220,000 small producers. These interventions have played a key role in unlocking market access and increasing income for rural, often isolated, communities across the region.
