According to the latest Indian Economic survey, Indian SMEs employ over 40 percent of the total workforce of India, but they only contribute to 17 percent of GDP. The fact remains that SMEs are the unsung backbone of the Indian economy, but SMEs feel they have been short-changed by Indian governments over the years. And because of their smaller size and inability to handle financial and macro economic shocks, SMEs also suffer the most during tough economic times. Hence, SME expectations from Arun Jaitley's maiden Union Budget, scheduled to be revealed on July 10 are high.
