The Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) and the Association for Private Capital Investment in Latin America (LAVCA) partner to release the 2018 report on impact investing globally and in private equity and venture capital in the Latin American region.
The report provides data on impact investment activity in 2016-2017, and impact investors active in the region and their expectations for the future.
Impact investors are defined as individuals who make direct investments in companies and/or projects, have positive social or environmental impact as an explicit objective, have an expectation of a financial return, invest using any instrument, including debt, equity, quasi equity, guarantees, or other, according to the report.
Key findings in the report, comparing the 2016-2017 to 2014-2015 investment activity included:
- An increase in the number of countries seeing non-MFI deals
- Investments made by investors based in Latin America approximately doubled
- A 49 percent increase in the number of deals and a 96 percent increase in the amount of capital invested
- Increases in the amount invested in nearly every Latin American country
