The power of data for financial inclusion: opportunities, challenges and ethics

Date: May 19 2015
Location: Washington DC - IDB Headquarters

The availability of large sets of client data is increasing at an astounding rate. Credit and payment information, cellphone usage and social media interactions are examples of “big data” that did not exist or were costly to access just a few years back. However, data is only useful for financial inclusion if there is a minimum capacity in place to analyze, process and turn it into better financial products.

This half-day workshop, organized by the MIF in cooperation with the Opportunities for the Majority Initiative (OMJ/IDB) and Movilway, will explore some recent experiences on databases and data analytics for improving financial inclusion.
